Treatments
IPL photofacial
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) photofacials in Scottsdale are the industry’s gold standard for improving the appearance of dark spots, sunspots, rosacea, age spots, and improved skin texture. We can also use the treatment for hair removal, photo rejuvenation, and to help alleviate dermatologic conditions like acne.
Consultation Required
We always start with a consultation for any new patient before beginning a treatment plan. During your consultation, we will review your medical history, listen to your goals, and address any questions you have before determining your individual treatment plan. We offer complimentary consultations in our office and online through our virtual consultation tool.
Treatment Duration
30 minutes to 1 hour
Number of Sessions Needed
A series of at least 3 treatments spaced 3-4 weeks apart is recommended, especially if extensive sun damage or redness is present. Hair removal requires anywhere from 6-12 treatments.
Downtime
You should be able to go right back to your regular activities. The treated area of skin will be red and sensitive for a few hours, as if you got sunburnt. Your skin may be slightly swollen, too. Your skin will continue to be sensitive for a couple of days after the procedure.
Duration of Results
Many clients chose to maintain their results with an annual treatment.
Add-ons
Additional areas IPL photofacial can treat: hands, back, chest, and neck.
Results
Immediately following your treatment, your skin may feel slightly warm and tight, similar to a mild sunburn. Treated pigmentation will initially appear darker before sloughing off over the next 7-14 days. You may notice more pigment initially because of IPL’s ability to treat damage in deeper layers of skin that have not surfaced yet. To protect the emerging healthy skin, avoid scrubbing, rubbing, or picking at these darkened areas. Use a SPF 30+ daily after your treatment to protect your skin and prevent future damage.
Most clients experience a substantial and visible improvement with one IPL treatment. However, a series of at least 3 treatments spaced 3-4 weeks apart is recommended, especially if extensive sun damage or redness is present. Once a series of treatments is completed, many clients choose to maintain their results with an annual treatment each fall or winter.

How it works
IPL photofacial
A IPL photofacial emits several wavelengths to address a broader range of skin concerns during a single treatment. Your certified laser technician will customize the filters used during your procedure to focus on areas of darker pigmentation, individual broken facial capillaries, and areas of redness or rosacea.
Targeted areas will absorb the energy from the pulsed light without compromising the surrounding skin. As a result, dark spots will grow even darker over the following days and gradually flake off to reveal a brighter, more even skin tone. Broken capillaries will turn grey and gradually fade away. Facial redness will progressively calm and clear with repeated treatments.
FAQs
What should I avoid before getting my IPL photofacial?
Avoid any irritants to your skin, such as any products containing Retin-A, retinol, benzoyl peroxide, glycolic/salicylic acids, astringents, and vitamin C for 1 week before your treatment. Do not wax treatment areas for 1 week prior to your treatment.
Does IPL tighten skin?
It has been found to significantly improve photoaged skin when used alone or in combination with other treatments. IPL has also been tested for its effects on hyaluronic acid and collagen levels in the skin. These levels were found to normally increase 48 hours after treatment, tightening and improving skin texture.
How long does it take for brown spots to lighten after IPL photofacial?
The darkened area typically fades in 7 to 14 days. This is when you'll also notice that many superficial brown spots around the treated area become lighter and less noticeable.
