Number of Sessions Needed

In order to achieve optimal results with the PRP hair treatment, we may recommend multiple treatment sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart. Your full results may not be visible until 3-6 months after your last treatment session, at which time you will notice an increase in natural hair growth and overall hair health.

Downtime

There is minimal downtime following a PRP hair treatment. Following the injections, patients may experience “pressure” on the scalp that may feel similar to a mild headache. This will dissipate after 12-24 hours. We advise patients to avoid NSAIDs such as Motrin or Aleve, fish oil, vitamin E, alcohol, or anything else that might promote blood thinning on the day of the procedure.

Duration of Results

While the treatments will be long lasting, they are not permanent and cannot prevent future hair loss or hair thinning. We recommend patients receive maintenance treatments every 6-12 months in order to maintain their results.

Results

Because a great deal of hair loss is related to the damage that hair follicles accumulate over time, PRP hair treatments are able to correct hair loss by repairing and nourishing the follicles using healing growth factors. This slowly begins the growth of newer, healthier hair. We always recommend patients get a full panel of blood work, including thyroid function, testosterone levels, and iron/ferritin levels tested before deciding if PRP is the right choice for them. If the body has a hormone imbalance or other inflammatory response, the PRP will not likely produce the desired effect on hair growth.

What it Helps

PRP hair treatment in Scottsdale can help improve: alopecia areata, genetic hair loss, thinning hair, and baldness.

How it works

Hair Restoration

PRP hair therapy is a 3-step treatment in which a person’s blood is drawn, the plasma is isolated, and then injected into the scalp. Platelet-rich plasma triggers natural hair growth and maintains it by increasing blood supply to the hair follicles, consequently increasing the thickness and strength of the hair shafts.

FAQ

Does PRP regenerate hair follicles?

PRP cannot regrow hair from nothing, there has to be at least a dormant hair follicle. If a patient's alopecia is extensive, the area needs to be “seeded” with transplanted hair follicles.

How long does PRP last for hair loss?

PRP is typically administered into the scalp where the hair loss has occurred monthly for 3 months. Repeat sessions are then needed about every 3-4 months for up to two years.

Can I wash my hair after PRP?

You should avoid washing the treatment area for 48 hours. After that, it is alright to use hair and skin care products while continuing with topical medications. The treatment area may be sore for 2-3 days, and the patient may notice some bruising.
